You and Me . 2006
About 36 m2 of paper garlands were used to create three works.
You with Me | You on Me | You all over Me. The paper streamers, all cut by hand, are first names of people like Johan, Kathrin, Mirta etc. written together. In the images, a young woman tries to relate to these paper names.
The balance between the individual and the individual as a part of a whole is the common thread in my work. The word 'you' in the title refers to you as many people rather than you as one person.
It is about people who physically or mentally are closer to you, people you always have in mind, your inner circle let say. It is about people you have worked with or you have been related to some how, it is about all the people who pass through a person's life.
Is this amount of acquaintances/friends/relatives a wealth, a burden or both at the same time?
I think all the people who pass through a person's life have a great influence on him. You are shaped not only by your parents and your education, but also by the greengrocer and the taxi-driver at a holiday destination.
You also owe what you are to 'all those people', despite the fact that this seems to contrast with the contemporary individual perception of ourselves, in which we think we can determine everything.
