Commission by the Municipality of Mijdrecht to create a monument in Wilnis at the very spot where the dyke collapsed during a night in August 2003, flooding a large area of the village. tudelft.nl
115 inhabitants of Wilnis have shared their experiences of that memorable night, with the artists Maria Ikonomopoulou and Elspeth Pikaar. What the village looked like the day after and their thoughts about water and it's significance. These stories have been the source of inspiration for the piece, a massive sitting element which bears selected text fragments set in relief with platinum glazing on dark reddisch brown ceramic tiles.
